AGRA

Capi's and Trio's are committed to reducing our carbon footprint by becoming more "green" in our operations. The steps currently include:

1) Supporting local farmers who practice organic and sustainable agriculture;

2) Using environmentally friendly cleaning products, as well as biodegradable take-out containers made of potato, corn or sugar cane by-products;

3) Using copy paper and other paper products consisting of at least 80% post-consumer recycled material that are produced 100% by wind energy.

We recycle our cardboard and as a founding member of the Arkansas Green Restaurant Alliance (AGRA), one of our goals is to encourage an increase in options for businesses to recycle.  Other founding members of AGRA are Boulevard Bread and Lilly's Dim Sum.

Capi's and Trio's are involved in the following:

  • Recycling our waste oil.
  • Converting some lights to compact fluorescents.
  • Converting refrigeration to energy efficient models upon replacement.
  • Reducing natural gas usage.
  • Using bridgeable, compostable take-out containers.
  • Using recycled paper products
  • Buying whenever possible from local farmers to support sustainable agriculture.
  • Using earth-friendly cleaning products.
  • Recycling whenever possible beginning with cardboard.

By changing a few habits like the ones below we can all make a positive impact on the environment:

  • Turn off all lights when you leave a room.
  • When your lights burn out, replace them with compact fluorescent bulbs.
  • Do not leave electronic devices on "standby," turn them off.
  • Reduce shower and bath water usage.
  • Don't leave hot water running while you brush your teeth.
  • Wait until you have a full load before starting the dishwasher or washing machine.
  • Reuse bath towels and wear clothing more than once, when practical.
  • Reduce by one half the quantity of dish soap, laundry detergent, and cleaning chemicals you use.
  • Ask for and purchase biodegradable, environmentally friendly personal hygiene and household cleaning products.
  • Patronize retailers implementing environmentally sound business practices.
  • Ask for recycled packaging, bags, and carry-out containers.
  • Use recycled paper goods at home.
  • Do not use herbicides. Bend over and pluck weeds rather than contaminating your environment.
  • Use pesticides sparingly, if at all. (they impact honeybee, songbird, butterfly, etc. populations.)
  • Xeriscape. Landscape with indigenous plant species, plant prairie grasses and wildflower borders rather than battling thirsty, non-native plants and grasses which require chemical and hydro-interventions.
  • Install programmable thermostats which cycle up or down automatically when you are not home.
  • Use solar powered landscape accent lighting.
  • You can turn up the thermostat two or three degrees in the summer if you wear fewer clothes at home during the summer, use lightweight bedding and by installing ceiling fans.  Likewise in winter you can lower the heat by wearing more clothes.
  • Buy a fuel efficient automobile and park the SUV.
  • Practice fuel efficient driving techniques such as coasting to stop lights and down hill and eliminating jack-rabbit starts.

We need your cooperation and suggestions.
Let's conserve more and waste less!
